FASIL SLOWS BAHIR DAR, AS TITLE RACE TIGHTENS

The Ethiopia Premier League title race tightened Thursday as Bahir Dar failed to beat Fasil Kenema with the game ending goalless.

Dire Dawa City forced Adama City to a 1-1 draw in the other game of the day but it was the first game that held all the permutations.

It was a missed opportunity for the rampaging “Waves of Tana” who would have moved up the log to within one point of second placed, Mekelakeya on 44 points.

Mekelakeya will take on bottom Club, Hambericho and a win opens 6 points lead over Bahir Dar.

Bahir Dar remain third, with 41 points, and with league leaders, Ethiopia Nigd on 47 points.

The Commercial Bankers face hapless Wolkite, chances are that they might be 9 points ahead of Bahir Dar by the end of the week 24 fixtures.

Bahir Dar could also lose third place to St George who could move to 42 points with a win over Ethiopian Insurance. The Horsemen are currently in 4th place with 39 points.

Elsewhere, Dire Dawa and Adama City fought through 80 minutes of heated exchanges before a goal was scored.

Adama City’s Fikru Alemayehu broke the deadlock with sublime finish in the 80th minute.

Adama then closed shop and tried to hold on for the remaining 10 minutes but Dire Dawa pressed for an equaliser.

They were rewarded in the 89th minute by Eyasu Legese with a goal that earned them a share of the spoils, 1-1 it finished.

Adama City and Fasil Kenema complete the top six with 38 and 37 points respectively with both still mathematically able to win the league with six games to go.
